Country Pumpkin Wall Hanging: Rustic Autumn Crochet Design

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to jump on the wall hanging trend! But it’s official… I am obsessed!!

The designs and possibilities are endless!!! I have SO many ideas for more wall/door hangings! I can’t wait to share them with you!!

For this design I wanted something rustic that gave a country vibe and since autumn is right around the corner….why not a pumpkin?!

For the yarn…. I wanted something that was accessible and somewhat easy to find. I went with Loops & Threads Impeccable. Impeccable had the colors I wanted. Although, I wish my location would have had more tweed options. Be that as it may I was able to find all the colors I needed to make this design come to life!!

For the dowel I used a strong stick. A special thanks to my husband for cutting off the little knots from the stick and ensuring that it was the perfect size for my hanging!!

For the design I carried the yarn on the WS for the bottom and top squares and used bobbins for the sides. I carried the background color and the pumpkin color together but created a separate bobbin for the stem.

Pattern

Level: Intermediate- Need to know how to work from a graph and do colorwork

Materials

G/ 4.00 mm Crochet Hook
Worsted Weight Yarn
- 4 Colors
  - Impeccable: Soft Taupe: Color 1: 15g
  - Impeccable: Walnut: Color 2: 20g
  - Impeccable Tweed: Tweed Aran: Color 3: 25g
  - Impeccable: Pumpkin: Color 4: 12G
Notions: Scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle
Wooden Dowl or stick approximately 14″ to 16″ wide

Measurements

Piece measure’s: 12″ x 10″ (10 1/2″ with dowel)
Gauge: 16S x 16R equals 4″

Stitches

Ch- Chain
SC- Single Crochet

Notes:

Per Industry Standards Only the Graph is provided. However, written and block format instructions can be purchased (graph included)
Odd Rows are RS; Even rows are WS
This pattern is worked from the bottom up and worked alternating from right to left and left to right
Foundationless Chain start (or foundation Chain) represents Row 1 on the graph
Starting instructions provided to represent either a foundationless or ch start
Stitch Count is 44
The graph DOES NOT show your turning ch.
Each row starts with a Ch
Beginning Chain DOES NOT count as a stitch

Instructions

Row 1: With color 2; Foundationless SC 44 OR ch 45. SC in each ch across starting in the 2nd ch from hook

Finishing

Prepare stick by removing the knots. These may snag your hanging. Align the stick/dowel to the top center of your piece. Allowing for the same amount of overhang on each side.
With Color 3 attach stick/dowel to the piece by sewing around the stick into the last row.
Chain 50-75 ( this greatly depends on how long you want your hang to be. I chained 60 and tied a knot to form a loop on mine). Attach both ends of the chain the the stick/dowel.
