Fair Isle Coffee Mug Coaster: Crochet pattern
Add a Touch of Whimsy to Your Table with This Charming Coffee Mug Coaster: Crochet Pattern.
I love coffee, but while I prefer iced coffee, I thought, why not combine two of my favorite passions: Coffee and Crochet?
This pattern combines sc crochet stitches and color changes using the Fair Isle technique.
What is Fair Isle Crochet?
About Fair Isle:
- The technique is referred to as “stranded” colorwork because long strands remain on the backside.
- Only one color is used at a time, resulting in sharp and clean transitions between colors.
- This method is typically utilized with single crochet.
Fair Isle Tips:
- To prevent long strands from snagging or pulling, make sure to work over the unused strands every few stitches.
- It’s best to work this technique in rounds, which conceals the “stranded” or reverse side of the fabric.
- Pay attention to the contrast between colors to ensure the pattern is clearly defined.
- Fair Isle crochet floats (strands) should be kept slightly looser than normal stitches to avoid puckering.
- For extended color changes, consider fastening off and rejoining the yarn (Intarsia) instead of carrying it too far across the back, as this helps to avoid long floats that could lead to puckering in the fabric.
