Addi Swing Dupe Review

I really, really wanted these Addi Swing Dupe to be good.

You know the feeling—budget-friendly set, looks promising, gives off ✨“maybe I just found a hidden gem”✨ energy…A Dupe..Better yet! An Addi Dupe. GIVE THEM TO ME

Yeah. That’s not how this went.

In this review, I tested an Addi-style crochet hook dupe set alongside Scheepjes Softfun yarn using The Farmhouse Square Pattern —and while there were a couple of bright spots, this one ultimately ended with a return to Amazon.

Addi Dupe First Impressions: Hope Was High

For $9.99 for a set of 6 hooks, I went in cautiously optimistic.

And at first? Not bad.

  • Comfortable handle
  • Decent shape
  • Felt like they could work

I picked them up thinking, “Okay… maybe these are actually going to surprise me.”

The Addi Dupe Performance: Inconsistent Is the Problem

Here’s where things started to fall apart.

The 4.5 mm Hook 👀

Honestly? This one did pretty well.

It glided smoothly through the yarn, no major issues, no fighting the stitches. If the whole set performed like this, we’d be having a very different conversation.

The 5.0 mm Hook 😬

Completely different story.

  • Noticeable drag
  • Not smooth at all
  • Felt like I had to work to move through stitches

And when you’re crocheting, that inconsistency is a dealbreaker. You shouldn’t have to guess how each hook is going to behave.

The Real Issues with the Addi Dupe (And Why They Matter)

This is the part that sealed it for me.

❌ Dried Glue on the Hook

On the 5.0 mm hook, there was visible dried glue where the hook was inserted into the handle.

And yep—you could feel it.

That drag? Pretty sure this was the culprit.

And here’s the thing:
That’s not just a minor flaw—that’s a quality control issue.

❌ The Size Markings Scratch Off

This one made me pause.

The hook sizes?
You can literally scratch them off with your fingernail.

So over time, you’re left guessing:
“Is this the 5.0 or the 5.5?”

Not ideal. Not even a little.

🧶 Using Them with Scheepjes Softfun

Now, to be fair, Scheepjes Softfun did its job beautifully.

  • Smooth yarn
  • Great stitch definition
  • Easy to work with

But even a well-behaved yarn couldn’t fully make up for the issues with the hook—especially that drag on the 5.0 mm.

💭 Final Verdict: Are They Worth It?

Here’s the honest take:

  • 💰 Price? Great
  • 👍 Some hooks? Usable
  • ❌ Consistency & quality? Not there

For $9.99, are they okay?

Sure.

But for me?

👉 It’s a no. They went back to Amazon.

Because at the end of the day, I don’t want to fight my tools—or wonder if each hook is going to behave differently.

👀 Who Might Like These

To be fair, these could work if:

  • You’re a beginner experimenting on a tight budget
  • You don’t mind minor inconsistencies
  • You just need something temporary

But if you care about smooth stitching and long-term use?

You might want to skip these.

💬 Let’s Talk

Have you ever tried a dupe that just didn’t live up to the hype?

Or found one that totally surprised you?

Because I’m still on the hunt for a good budget hook 👀
